Freezing problem

i just upgraded my linux machine from suse 9.1 to 9.3 last night. for some reason now when im logged into like window maker, gnome, or kde after and hour or sometimes less the gui freezes. i can still log in through ssh using putty or from my other linux mahcine i have here. i can work in putty or through console on other linux machine but the gui on the local machine is frozzen and the only way is to restart the whole machine becuase everything is locked up.

but the strange thing is is that everything is locked up but i can move the mouse but when i click on stuff nothing happens cause everything is frozzen up.

what are some cause that could be causing this. is it video drivers, X its self. what could it be?

You could try and run top or the like (I use gkrellm in X) to monitor the cpu usage.
Perhaps some process is going nuts and sucking up all your cpu cycles.

Maybe the video card or cpu is overheating?

Other than that if 9.1 was working fine then I don't know.

Also I don't think that it's a problem with X or your video drivers if X starts up without any problems and works for awhile before any problems occur.

thanks for the info but after i did a little bit of expirments myself i came to the concludsion that it was the nvida drivers from the nvidia website. it looks like the drivers they have on their website are alittle old and suse 9.3 dose not support them the reason why i say this is because i went back into the XFConfig file and changed the driver from "nvidia" back over to "nv" and since i did that i had no more freeze ups. the system is running fine right now

The cpu and video card are not heating up and i alway am running top and gkrellm here a screenshot of it
