Freeze at "Checking root filesystem"
Hi there,

Before I start, I need to tell you I'm completely new to Linux and I've never had any previous experience with it...

I've recently installed Mandriva Linux 10.1 on to my computer, which is also running Windows XP. Everytime I try to boot up Linux however, it always hangs when it gets to "Checking root filesystem". I've searched for any solutions to my problem by I haven't found one which has helped me, or one I understood. I really want to start using Linux as I've heard it's a great OS, but I can't at the moment cause I can't get it working...

Thanks in advance,

You can try passing some boot parameters when you try to boot linux. To do that reboot and hit the Esc key as soon as you see the lilo selection screen which will take you to a boot prompt. At the prompt type:

linux noapic

and hit the Enter key.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately what you suggested didn't help, and I still get to the same point where it freezes.
