Format / only

My current rig has had a major hardware change (Intel to AMD) I am running Fedora 29 and there have been a series of odd issues.

ex: F@H (https://foldingathome.org/) just will not run. All kinds of permission errors. Have had them since the Intel system was running. My laptop (also a 3rd gen Intel, but an i5, not i7) has zero issues running F@H.

ex: Dual DP (Displayport) output on my Nvidia GTX 1070 card. I have succeeded in getting 1x DP and 1x HDMI to function, but never 2x DP. Not sure if that is just Linux + Nvidia drivers or other.

ex: Sleep, display power only function some of the time. Most times I have to manually tell the monitors to go black in order for the system to eventually (on correct timer) to go into sleep mode.

So a few niggles from time to time.

Typically I either just perform dnf -y upgrades between release of Fedora following their Wiki process:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DNF_system_upgrade

Or I will perform a fresh full low level format reinstall of the OS.

What pitfalls should I be aware of in order to save my partitioning schemes, /home /swap, etc... for a full install of just the OS?

Thank you,

edit to add: Also what information do you need from my current system to better guide me down a safer path?

The install guide covers all this - personally I find the anaconda (manual) partitioning arcane, but I haven't had to do it for a while.
If you are simply re-formatting the existing root it works pretty well as it's easy to see what it's doing. Just make sure you format the root and don't format the /home. Swap is irrelevant as anaconda will build the fstab for you.

You'll need to re-install packages you need of course - get a list from dnf and/or rpm before you start. I alway miss some, but when you go to use one, you'll remember ...

syg00, thank you. That is what I thought, but better to ask first and confirm, than jump in and guess at something incorrect.
