format hard drive
 I have just installed Mandrake 9.2 on a new computer.
I partioned the hard drive so I could run Mandrake & 98se on a duel boot system. The problem I have is that on installing Mandrake it took over all the hard drive and I cannot find any way to format it to start again. Could any one advise me on how to format the drive and install 98se & Mandrake 9.2 on a duel boot system. As I am new to this can you please keep the instructions easy. Regards Alan:newbie: |
Before re-installing/re-formatting I'd suggest you
post the output of fdisk -l and cat /etc/fstab here ... Cheers, Tink |
fdisk
I tried to fdisk with a 98se boot disc it said I could not delete the main partition while an extended partition existed.
So I clicked on delete extended partion and it said cannot delete as long as logical drives exist, so I clicked on delete logical drives in extended partition and then went back to delete extended partition and again it said cannot delete as long as logical drives exist so I was going round in circles getting nowhere. What is cat /etc/fstab?. here ... Does this help?. |
with my limited experience with linux it appears that you have to maunually partition the hd to make more then one opperateing system work together and a problem arrises when you install linux and do an auto install.
