Fonts not clear

Using IE on XP fonts look very clear of course. I'm using Mozilla and Opera and whilst larger fonts are legible, in the smaller size stuff the letters seem to bleed into one another and are a bit difficult to read. The default fonts on the system all read fine it's appears to be just the Internet pages. I've tried changing the default font on the browser but that doesn't seem to make any difference at all. Anybody any ideas at all?
Thanks in advance
Arty Sin
