fonts in kde are blurry

Hi there,

just set up a server with Debian Sarge and KDE 3.3.2 on a dual 850 machine. It is running gdm and XDMCP, since no one works there locally, but several people need to work remotely (it is a secure network).

The speed is fine, everybody is happy - but the quality of the display sucks!! The colors and icons are pretty cool - but the fonts look terrible. Everything blurry and edgy, although I have already turned on aliasing in the control center. Does anybody know what else I could do to get some better results?

Install some nicer fonts?

Is antialiasing definitely on & working? xmag is a handy app to double-check if you're not certain..

The Font is Helvetica in size 12 - the one that comes with KDE. That should be a good font. I turned everything on which Anti-Aliasing could offer me: the writing on the menu and on the windows now got much better, but the writing which underlines the icons on the desktop, for example the trash, are still almost illegible. It looks as if he is trying to do a shadow, but cannot do it properly :-( But I just cannot find any option to turn this off. There is one which turns off shadowing, but this does not seem to effect the writings beneath the desktop icons. Argh!
