fluxbox startup file does not exist

I have been using fluxbox for like a month now, and I decided yesterday to reinstall ol' gentoo. But after installing fluxbox and using it I immediately found a problem. THERE IS NO STARTUP FILE! The reason this surprises me so much is becuase I cannot think of any possible reason for the fluxbox startup file to not exist. Anyway, I ahve been searching online, and it doesnt seem like it has been recently changed in anyway that could affect the startup file.

The fluxbox directory is in you home directory as a hidden file. Hence, .fluxbox/startup. the period in front of the file name designates a hidden file and must be used when calling up the startup file when you modify it.

I know the the fluxbow directory is ~/.fluxbox and the startup file is ~/.fluxbox/startup. I am saying that that file does not exist under my account, but all fo the other config files do. Thanks tho.

Code:
# fluxbox startup-script:
#
# Lines starting with a '#' are ignored.

# You can set your favourite wallpaper here if you don't want
# to do it from your style.
#
#
# This sets a black background

# /usr/X11R6/bin/bsetroot -solid black

# This shows the fluxbox-splash-screen
# fbsetbg -C /usr/share/fluxbox/splash.jpg

# Other examples. Check man xset for details.

#
# Turn off beeps:
# xset -b
#
# Increase the keyboard repeat-rate:
# xset r rate 195 35
#
# Your own fonts-dir:
# xset +fp /home/<user>/.font
#
# Your favourite mouse cursor:
# xsetroot -cursor_name right_ptr
#
# Change your keymap:
# xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap

# Applications you want to run with fluxbox.
# MAKE SURE THAT APPS THAT KEEP RUNNING HAVE AN ''&'' AT THE END.
#
# unclutter -idle 2 &
# wmnd &
# wmsmixer -w &
# idesk &

# And last but not least we start fluxbox.
# Because it is the last app you have to run it with ''exec'' before it.

exec /usr/X11R6/bin/fluxbox
# or if you want to keep a log:
exec /usr/X11R6/bin/fluxbox -log ~/.fluxbox/log
That's what mine looks like w/o the stuff I added to it, although for some reason or other it doesn't do anything so I just add to .xinitrc

AH, sorry about that. I misread and thought you didn't know where to look for it.

You could try to re-emerge fluxbox and see if that will do it. That's about all I can think of.

graverobbing for fluxbox on debian

i am usin a minimal debian install with fluxbox installed, and have found that i too am missing a startup file in the .fluxbox directory. is there a problem creating my own startup file? do i have to copy the defaults as they show on the fluxbox wiki, or can i start my own using only the lines that i want?

(i do understand about hidden files and the .fluxbox directory DOES exist with other files, just not the startup file)

I did a SEARCH "debian fluxbox startup pastebin" and came up with

http://pastebin.com/2jcydXuf

It is a 2013

in case you wish to use stock Debian ~/.fluxbox/startup file instead of fluxbox wiki's
startup file. Up to you though.

I am dist-upgrading my AntiX 11 fluxbox shop desktop using smxi right now so my file is unavailable presently as I am out of X dist-upgrading.

Edit: if you have locate or mlocate installed. You can search the system for /fluxbox/startup file with

Code:
locate startup
in terminal

neither mlocate nor locate list startup as a file associated with fluxbox directories

Well, I am done updating mine.

You can use either the pastbin link I gave for a startup file or mine if you want.
By the way. locate fluxbox and locate startup show mine present. But then I have one
where you do not, I guess.

Code:
root@biker:/home/harry# apt-get dist-upgrade

root@biker:/home/harry# cat /etc/issue

Comment out what you don't use that I use like startup sounds and wicd, etc.... I guess.

rain and 48 huh... bummer. actually, that sounds kinda nice.

i really only wanted it to start conky, but i just added "conky &" to my .xinitrc file, which did what i needed anyway.
