flash plug in for firefox or mozilla impossible to install with fedora x86_64
 

Hello friends,
I am new with Linux, I installed Fedora successfully but when I want to install the flash plug in for firefox, the OS tells me that the flash plug in that I have downloaded is not compatible with my version, it's the 64 bits version. Is there any other flash plug in that could work with my version?

I don't believe so. Some distro's package a 32 bit version of firefox for running on the Amd64. You may have both versions. If so, you could uninstall the 64 bit version and reinstall the 32 bit version.

This is big problem at the moment, in pretty much all versions of Linux. Some possible workarounds are: install a 32-bit version of Firefox, install the 32-bit version of Fedora, or try a different browser. I hear that Flock is a Firefox based browser that works with the 64-bit flash plugin. Haven't tried it personally though.

thanks for your tip. I will try to download Flock and will keep you informed if it works with the 64-bit version of Linux.

Hey I got the same problems with Flash on x86_64 system and I installed Flock browser but even then when I try to install the Flash plugin it says it has been installed but still gives the popup to install the plugin and flash stil isn't working..

I've installed a flash RPM file from http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i386.rpm.html
I just installed the packages graphically and it sayd it could be a harmfull package but I just ignored that... after the rpm installation it created a folder called flash in /usr/lib/ in that folder was the libflashplayer.so plugin.. now I just made a symlink in my firefox plugin folder:
and you're done :D to have flash working in mozilla too you have to change /usr/lib/firefox*/plugins to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and make a symlink there...

Hey I installed the RPM. It created the directory.. I created the symlink.. Restarted Firefox.. It still asks me to install missing plugins..

My question is did anyone else get this to work this way? Did you start firefox in 32 bit mode to get it to work?

The only other thing I noticed is that if I attempt to download from Macromedia directly the version is 7.0.69.0 but via the RPM it is 7.0.68.0. Is this 8 to 9 support of flash or just a small fix? If the base version number was 9.0.69 or 68.0 this would not be a question..

So does that mean it is working on your system? If so are you running Firefox in 32 bit mode?
