I went back to the Hentges 3.5.4.1 ROM and got software to install on my SD card. It was trying to install on my Z's limited RAM and kept running out of space. It didn't recognize sd as a device...the cardfs must not have finished. What I did to get that to install on my sd was to first uncompress the cardfs software on my sd card. Then I took out the SD and reflashed my Z. Then I booted it without any cards installed. Once Opie was working I installed the cards and went to the terminal where I typed:
ipkg-link mount /media/card
Then I reloaded the icons and all my applications appeared. To install more software (Opie-sheet, Opie-search, Opie-dagger....get sword depends and texts off http://draknor.net/projects/dagger.php for some nice Bible texts and dictionaries) I went here:
I put the ipk files on my CF and went to the included advanced file manager. I tapped on File>Run Command with Output and typed:
ipkg install -d sd [package name]
Then goto the terminal and type:
ipkg-link mount /media/card
Once done reload the icons again to see your new software.
I still don't have my contacts ported over from the Sharp ROM and will work on this now. The previous links I was given look like they will help me with this.

Have been using pdaxrom for the last 6 months ,opie wasnt as good on the sl1000 as it was on the sl5000, this thread got me to give a try again and it has got a lot better.
Using the same version as you, 3.5.4.1 and happy with it. Its a testing/recent version though and it does have a few faults, I have had problems with cf cards not identified (pccardctl, changed back to pcmcia-cs) and a few small things with suspend/resume (doesnt like being interupted while its working) so I might go to 3.5.4 for a while until it is more finished.
You say you uncompressed the cardfs image onto your card, do you mean you used the system that had been installed to the card or you got the tar.gz rootfs image and unziped it to the card?
The rootfs images are here: http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4...llie/tarballs/
and the cardfs images are here: http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4...collie/cardfs/
With either you need to use altboot to boot from the sd card, running everything from the internal rom will fill it up quickly and cause some configuration problems.
You may need to re-install the image on the card as configurations may be damaged, it should be ok though.
If you do re-install, try the ext2 loop images: http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4.1/T1/collie/ext2/
They are the best of the 3 options, a lot of folks find them faster and you can copy the image file from the card and have everything backed up with all your software, files and configurations.
Glad to hear you got it working, that is what matters most
The bible software you were using with cacko, was it commercial or gpl software? It would be interesting to see what is better and what is worse between them.
Do you have a wifi card or the serial cable? Its great for software installation, file transfer and using the pc from the couch It isnt to difficult to set up, the network settings tool works well.
Opie-pimconverter might be usefull for you, I havnt tried it but it is in the feed.
There is quite a lot of software here: http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/?lastverified=07-MAR-2004
but very mixed up. The start page has a lot of usefull lings too: http://zaurus.spy.org/
Here is a forum you have probably seen: http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showforum=69
found information for nearly every problem ive ever had there.
Post back with any problems. Good luck with it.

I used a cardfs that had previously been installed on the card.

It was commercial software. The navigation features on the commercial software was better (I am not able to scroll by pages with the GPL Opie Dagger) but I like how you can have many tabs of texts, dictionaries, and lexicons open on Opie Dagger.

a problem I noticed with the OZ ROM is that when it goes into suspend mode it isn't as snappy as the Sharp ROM was at waking back up when you press the power key. Is that a problem with the ROM or my Z?

No, same here. had some crashes and the backlight turning off if anything is pressed before it is finished loading back up too.
You can set the power management to just turn of the display which should be a lot faster but will be a pain in the neck when its running from the battery.
3.5.3 was much faster to start up, less than a second, but 3.5.4.1 is using the 2.6 kernel so a lot has changed.
btw, had a look at the opie-pimconverter and it looks like just what you need.

I'm having trouble getting this to install because of all the dependencies. Did you install it on 3.5.4.1 using package manager to go through the feed on the internet? I think the Sharp ROM stores the contacts in the file addressbook.so and then you would need to use Opie-pimconverter on that file in OZ...is that what you did?

I installed it through the feed using the command line, not actually used it though. have a 2GB card so I get a bit greedy sometimes, the last set of packages took 4 hours to install . ipkg has become very slow because of this though, i think it stores its software information compressed. have to see if it can be made to use plain text to speed things up.
Cant remember which packages where needed to install the pim converter, but if you download the "Packages" file for each feed (or the Packages.gz file and unzip it) you have the information, dependencies ect in plain text.
Nice to know the tab manager works OK, hadn't noticed it wasnt in the feed and I could do with tidying up the menus.
Just tried the pim converter and it isnt telling me where it is looking for files . All i can see is it converts from xml to/from sql. xml normaly uses .xml for the extension, not sure what extension is normal for sql, doubt it is an .so file though, that is normaly used for system libraries.
Perhaps you could try searching through your home directory for a quite large file in either format?
