FireFox Memory Usage

I had just 5 tabs open and my System Monitor was showing 1.1GB RAM usage for FireFox ! Is this normal or some sort of memory leak ?
(I do have a couple of addons enabled like FireBug & AdBlockPlus)

Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 | 2.4GHz 8MB cache 1066MHz | 8GB DDR2 RAM @ 800MHz | SWAP 2GB (but almost never used)

I also had problems with firefox, slow, used a lot of memory, bad rendering....
I created a new profile, and all problems solved.

In a terminal type
$firefox -ProfileManager

Don't forget, you need to reinstall the addons, bookmark, passwords etc

firefox, memory
