Firefox Crashes

Firefox began crashing about a month ago, after an update.

All the crash reports say "Crash Reason SIGSEGV"

and

"GLXtest process failed (exited with status 1): GLX version older than the required 1.3"

I googled them both, but don't understand it.

Anyone know how to fix it?

thanks,
RB

Which firefox version? Is firebug add-on installed? Which graphic card, driver?

the google searches report that it's an ubuntu thing and from the error, glxtest needs to be updated in his ubuntu distro. most posts show people running glxinfo to find that they're on 1.2, but none of the posts really explain HOW to update glx. one of them shows where to go to do it but says that you (the end reader) should familiarize yourself more with the update process first, not offering any real help there. i think that's what moosemagnet is saying (that he's searched the errors, but doesn't know what these websites are telling people to do to fix it). HOW to update the glx stuff? i would try updating ff first, bugzilla posts infer that it was fixed on the software side, but i don't know if that's true

I asked for some more info regarding the hardware but didn't get response. Would be helpful...

So sorry. I had to be elsewhere for a day.

Right - I don't know what it's telling me or how to fix it.
Someone on the Ubuntu forum said to delete my FF profile. I did that. Quite a hassle to rebuild everything with the new profile. I'm grateful for XMarks. It so far has fixed it.

I have no idea why creating a new profile fixed it. Frustrating to me that nobody else seems to know either. And frustrating that I am among the few who had this problem. Oh well.. It seems to be fixed now after creating a new FF profile and rebuilding everything.

And another sorry, that I only want it to work, and don't want to spend any more time trying to understand why the crashes happened. Also disappointing is that there were virtually zero replies on the mozilla forum. Weird. Oh well.

Sorry for the tardy reply. Thanks everyone for helping, sincerely.

RB
