Finding on-screen coordinates of colored rectangle

Hi,

I am new to X-window programming & this forum.

My problem is:
There is an application which outputs a filled rectangle in a particular colour on the screen (Linux platform). Can anyone suggest an efficient way to get the on-screen coordinates of this rectangle using Xlib/SDL? Scanning the screen pixel-wise will be a time consuming process.
