filesystem for 200gb partitions.
 

Ok, normally I go with ext3fs for my partitions, but in my new partition scheme /home will be bumped up to 200gb (from 150), and I will have a 200gb backup drive for /home too. The machine is my personal desktop computer.. And yes, I use all my storage :) I am about to upgrade to over a terrabyte of storage here soon enough. I run Windows XP, Slackware 10.1, and have a partition for building my own live CD. I'm an indie recording artist, so I have large amounts of raw audio files.

Is ext3fs still a good choice for that large of a partition?

I don't want to use Reiser - I've encountered problems with it before, and still don't trust it (lost entire partitions).

ext3 should work fine, though personally I woud go for reiserfs. Unlike you I have found reiserfs to be quite reliable.

I've found the opposite to be true; I've had the power cut out in the middle of saving files, so a reboot and reiserfsck played back the journal and recovered the data in every single case. In the past (days of yore, Redhat 7.1 and earlier) I've had the opposite of your experience; I've lost data on ext2.

I trust Reiser's true journaling rather than ext's tacked-on afterthought.

Zero-slack storage (in Reiser) is also a very nice added benefit.

I've had Ext3 recover stuff w/ no problem. I lost data on Reiser partitions twice. Just my personal experience, though.
