filename view question
When i am at a command prompt and go into some directories some of the files are yellow or green and some are red and blue what do all the color schemes mean and some files have an asterisk at the end, what does that mean? thanks

The different colors denote different fiel attributes. Blue (on my system at least) is for directories, green for files that have the executable permission set, etc...etc....
You can set the colors yourself if you want to make them different. Do a quick search for changing bash colors (or similar), I remember someone posting a HOWTO on LQ a while back. The asterisk I believe is for linked files. slight |
Cool, I new they referenced the type but i was not sure what each meant. Thanks

* is for executable in, / for directory, @ for link...
