File Transfer

Is there any way (other than through the network) to do direct file trasferring between 2 computers (especially for the case in which one is Linux and the other one is Windows)?

The reason for this is that this program generates a huge output file of about 3 GB and the post-processing program is on another machine (Windows).

I know I can copy the output file onto a pen drive (memory stick) and then copy it to the Windows machine from there. I am just hoping there is a more sophosticated method.

Thanks!

.

You can connect two computers the parallel port or serial port but transfering a 3GB file will be extremely slow compared to the sneaker net (i.e. memory stick). Would be like trying to download a 650MB iso file via dialup. If interested Check out plip, slip or linux laplink howtos.

The fastest would be to connect the two computers via network adapaters and a crossover cable.

A crossover ethernet cable would work. Depending on the speeds of your network interfaces, it might be faster to use ip over firewire.
