File Storage w Apache

Hey all, I'm not sure what I should be googling for because I don't know what I'm supposed to call it....

Basically I have a box successfully hosting ftp/ssh/apache. I would like a web based file manager that is password protected that I can give the website to my friend and a username and password, and he has access to files contained in a specific folder. I could use ftp or any other method yes, but I want something that doesn't depend on any app, web based access is ideal.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

You might want to look at a CMS like Mambo, Joomla, or Tikiwiki. I like Joomla the best because it is simple, but Tikiwiki has a lot of mods.

If a CMS is too much for you to set up, you could try using a .htaccess file.

If I am reading your post correctly, you just want your friends to be able to browse a directory and donwload files? No uploading by your friends?
If that is the case just use .htaccess to control who has access to that directory. There is a tutorial about .htaccess at http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml
