File size limit in vfat partitions
I read that FAT partitions don't support file sizes bigger than 4 GB,
and in fact when I try to copy a DVD image into my /mnt/windows vfat partition I get a `file size limit exceeded' error message. Does anybody know if there is a way to overcome the problem, i.e. to make a vfat partition support large files (more than 4 GB) after all? Thanks, Rodolfo |
No, there is no way to do that, you should split the file.
That or convert it to NTFS, wich has a limit of 16 terabytes. Although the later might have problems when you want to write to the partition from Linux. Regards. |
Thanks.
I read about some tools able to make the Windows NTFS partition writable from Linux. How to convert my vfat to an NTFS, any hint? Rodolfo |
I dont know for sure, but Partition Magic should be able to do it, if it is possible.
Linux is capable of kind-of-writing to NTFS volumes... but, its not very stable and there are some restrictions (like you cant create files, only modify and it has to stay the same size... something like that). Its able to read NTFS without problems thought. |
Hello Sud_crow, let me check your spelling:
"I DON'T know for sure" "If it is feasible, PM should be able to solve it" "it is able to read NTFS without problem though" Yours sincerely. |
