FedoraCore5, connection lost after going into KDE?

I have a really strange problem I hope someone can help me out. I had no problem with Fedora Core up until 4 (some misc issues but nothing major). Yesterday I decided to give 5 a try on my Averatec 3200. It seems they haven't fixed the graphics chip problem so basically I have to manually edit my xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/ after the install to get any graphic desktop booted.

Anyway, I tested the connection after I boot up in mode3 and I have no problem, I can ping and be pinged and I can do a yum install on something so connection in fine at console level. Tried as both root and a normal user and connection seems fine as well. Now after going into either Gnome or KDE and the connection will be lost. ifconfig still shows my IP is fine at that point but then no connection at all. Log out and back to consoles and wait for half a minute or so the connection will work again. Deactiviate eth0 is ok, but trying to activate it back will cause the computer to freeze. So this puzzles me as I think it is something in the KDE stopping my connection but jsut don't know what it is. FC3, 4 are not like that. I first thought it was the firewall inside FC5 but then even I disabled it I don't get the connection back. I really like 5 since it finally can auto detect the jumpdrive without me having to manually mount it. I hope they fix the VIA S3 chip detection on my Averatec 3200 but oh well.
