Fedora/Kali Dual boot, Boot(grub) failed after Updating Fedora...

Hello guys.

After trying to update fedora (yum update),
my lenovo s430 failed to boot.
I try with Live Kali Linux to repair the grub, but there was some problems...

my boot was managed via fedora, i dont have access to any fedora live,
just a kali linux live

Code:

# grub-install /dev/sda1
output: command not found

# sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
output: unable to fetch some archives

# sudo mount /dev/sd9 /mnt
output: cant find /dev/sda9/mnt in /etc/fstab

here is the my grub location in kali:
# locate *grub
/etc/alternatives/desctop/40grub
/usr/lib/linux-boot-probes/mounted/40grub

How can i solve this case?
Thanks...

"failed to boot" is meaningless. What happened when you tried to boot - did you get a menu, did you not get a menu ?. Could you get a grub command prompt ?.

Trying to install grub from a non-Fedora live environment will be worse - chroot into the Fedora system if you want to re-install from there.

Just did a "yum update" on this F20 - picked up 152 packages. But not grub - hasn't been touched this year.

syg00 05-09-2014 02:39 AM

That looks like a BIOS boot menu. What happens when you select the ATA hard disk (or Windows Boot Manager for that matter) ?.

Selecting the 1th and third choice causes to restart the system(there is no windows).
I have this exprience once before, When i just installing the fedora, but forgot to install the boot loader.
After reinstalling the fedora carefully, it solved.

Is it possible to handle it with fedora installation Disk? (not live)

Let's see some additional info - from the Kali liveCD go here and do as it says (you may be able to just double-click the tar.gz to unroll it).
Post the RESULTS.txt here so we can see what's what.

Very suspicious that /dev/sda9 has the boot flag - did you try another install to /dev/sda9 ?.
Some BIOS are very sensitive to boot flag - by definition M$of don't allow it on a logical partition. Take it off /dev/sda9, and put it on /dev/sda1 - grub doesn't care about it.
Then I'd boot the Kali liveCD - you have two choices really:
- allow Kali to do the boot, and simply boot into the on-disk Kali if they have such an option and install grub to /dev/sda from there.
- chroot into Fedora and install grub to /dev/sda from there.

grub-install /dev/sda would work as root user if you are booted to Kali. You might take a look at the video below which is pretty descriptive and applies to your situation, installing grub from a Live CD w/Kali
