fedora 4 hanging right befor login

i recently set up a new linux dual boot system with 3 distros on it. working in fedora i was updating packages using yumex. i updated all of the packages listed in the update tab and everything seemed to run smoothly after a reboot. a few hours later when i tried to run yumex again it would not open. after a system reboot fedora hangs right before the login screen. other than that it seems to boot fine as i can access a root prompt via ctl+alt+f1.

From the ctrl-alt-f1, login and use the command ' dmesg ' to see if reports errors. Also if using grub bootloader and using quiet and rhbg on the boot line do it this way. When the boot manager comes up hit any key. Select the correct kernel to load. Hit the e key to edit . At the end of the line remove the quiet and rhbg and hit enter to save, Then hit b to boot. See if hangs somewhere.

What distros on the system?
Do each have there own partition?
You are not using a common partition on all for say /usr or /home?
If so you may corrupt the system depending if you are updating on all 3 distros. Depending on where the updates repos are and distro then it is possiable to have multiple versions installed. Another thing one distro may want its file in say /opt and others perfer in /usr. But the software may be aware of multiple locations and end up pulling info from another location instead of the right location which is the next choice in its search options. Might be able to tell more if you define each distros setup and other OSes installed.
