Question feature inquiry

hey... So I like redhat (shamefully) and I want to put fedora back on my laptop... however if I do... I was hoping that I would be able to use a feature from my current distro 'Mint' on fedora... I don't know where this feature comes from, but in the gnome terminal if I double tap tab after a command it gives me suggestions relating to the command... to best recollection fedora only suggests file paths...

Mint uses Debian PM... I'm therefore wondering if I go back to using rpms if I'll be able to get this feature

To the best of my knowledge, this is a feature of the bash shell, and not the Gnome terminal, or any particular distro. However, it does depend on a rather complicated config file (/etc/bash_completion - has 9401 lines on my laptop). You should be able to make a backup copy of this from Mint, then compare it to the equivalent in your new install of Fedora (you could probably even just drop it in as a replacement).

Introduction to bash completion

Why are you ashamed about liking Red Hat???

Yes, they're a large, commercial company. But if you can't afford an RHEL license, you can use Fedora or CentOS at no cost whatsoever. The fact that they have based the company on an open-source business model actually prevents them being like Microsoft even if they wanted to be.

Try setting up a community-based project to provide an operating system based on Windows 2008 Server, and see how far you get...

That particular feature is known as tab completion. And that is pretty much in most updated bash shells. There are also some add ons that will add what some are calling it smart tab completion.

That's a pretty bold statement. I personally like the way Fedora functions. Sure, I sometimes have to battle through some bleeding edge issues, but I feel assured that eventually they will be fixed. I feel the product overall is pretty good. Non-newbies know that Fedora is Redhat's software playground. I can live with that.

So, what Redhat does is provide an enterprise OS, with some of their own proprietary software, and support agreement. They're not forcing you to buy it.
