Fdisk To Se-size

Ok - I notice that my /usr partition (/dev/sda3) is getting critically low on space and I was wondering how I can use fdisk to re-size the partition? I am guessing I can't just run this from Gnome terminal and resize it since the /usr directory is mounted. Do I need to un-mount it before I make changes to it? If so, how do I accomplish this on my Linux box to where /usr is not mounted and I am able to re-size this?

Thanks for any help!

You cannot do anything like that on a mounted partition. So, boot up with your favorite LiveCD and run parted (GParted, QTParted).

Did someone say "backup first"?
GParted is a great tool--standalone bootable CD
