Angry FC4: Screen Locked crash during yum -y update overnight

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, this is now the second time this has happened... its currently crashed and theres nothing I can do. Last night I ran yum -y update after wiping clean and reinstalling yesterday morning, setting up the system in the day, then ran the yum -y install overnight as its about a 750mb download. Today I turned the monitor on entered my password in the 'Screen Locked' dialog and OK that to find it just saying in the password field "Checking..." for an indefinate amount of time. Theres nothing I can do. This also happened not yesterday but the day before which is why I had to try again. I can't find any known bugs, is it best to disable the screen lock feature (how?) first?

When this happened the other day I had to push reset where fsck ran and found and 'fixed' loads of errors on / leaving me with unexpected inconsistency where i have to run fsck manually , after that I couldnt load X ...which is why I started again... Please tell me theres some magic fix and I wont have to do this yet again? I only built the computer on thursday, its an Athlon 64 with Fedora Core 4 x86_64.

Any information? And quick - should I press the reset or not?!?

Ok so I got bored waiting for a reply and pressed reset, fsck came up same stuff, fixed loads of inode entries and wrong sizes... loads of y's later I have managed to boot back into X where everything seems to be ok, I havent tried with the new kernel yet which was installed last night, that may be dodgy as I think it was the last time this happened to me where I got numerous moer errors with things that should of been setup and working correctly. Well I hope no one else gets this... its a bit of a pain.
