Question FC3 to FC 4 update Problem

Hello,
I updated from FC3 to FC4 on a Dell Dell OptiPlex, which is Dual Booted with XP. FC4 upgraded OK, but when I re-booted I get a Blue Screen with mouse icon as an hour glass, i.e., busy. I can boot to text mode using "Linux 3" option in the boot command and can even get the GUI for system-config-display running. Can see no error at boot up time and have checked dmesg but can see nothing wrong. Has anyone had similar a problem? Any advise in trying to solve this problem. Want to avoid a full install of FC3 or FC4.

Thanks,
Cathal

Sounds like it might be a problem with your desktop environment. Which one are you using? An easy way to test for this particular problem is to create a new user account and startx from the command line with that user and see if that user has the problem. if not, move all the settings for your desktop out of the way and let them be recreated when you next login.

Thanks for the help on the desktop settings. Actually, I went and did a full install and it FC4 works. Pity the upgrade did not work as installation of applications will take time.
