Favourite feature of linux??
What is everyones favourite feature about linux?
|
multi-tasking
|
The source of course! ;-P
|
Can't agree more shortname =P
--Abid Kazmi |
vi :D
|
Its freedom?
|
console mode
|
Oooh. I thought of one other thing:
The client/server structure of almost every service in *NIX-dom! I mean, one X server on a headless system could handle all the requests for the rest of the computers in your house if you wanted to run dummy terminals. w00t! ;-D |
definitly the console... on the most basic level ls is so much nicer to type than dir.
oh yeah, ./configure make make install l also like the freedom to do what I want when I want, and the responsability of knowing that if I break it, its my fault and I can fix it. titanium_geek |
The basic unix concept:
Having many small tools that do ONE thing, and do that EXTREMELY WELL, and the ability to string those together :} And of course: -OpenSource -Security -Makes good use of hardware -smooth multi-tasking -Easy to administer from a console, even over a slow 56K connection (thanks to not using graphics) Cheers, Tink |
hehe i knew i would get loadsa answers lol. I think i like how linux is constantly evolving, where as Microsofts crap operating systems evolve every service pack the slightest, and every 5+ years a new OS comes out, with minor improvements and a nasty cost. also i love how complex the linux system is.

The feeling of freedom and total control
To me linux defines the true meaning of "Where would you like to go today" Plus without linux I would never have found LQ to which I am now unashamedly addicted Pete |
reliability and stability.
|
My favourite thing about linux is that I can make it look/feel/use however I want :D
|
I like the concept and the way it was implemented,
The whole idea of Open Sorce!!! (deserves to be written with capital letters) |
