The actual cause of the error will be slightly further up in the debug trawl.

If you recompiled your kernel, you most likely forgot to include support for DRI/DRM or the framebuffer or AGP or any combination of the above.

Regards

enabled framebuffer support but cant find support for DRI/DRM or the AGP..
im using make menuconfig to configure the kernel.

celtic32 08-28-2002 09:30 AM

anybody else got any ideas???

MasterC 08-28-2002 10:57 AM

DRI/DRM and AGP should be in the character devices section.

celtic32 08-29-2002 09:55 AM

ok did that... ran 'make dep' ..
what do i need to do then...
im really up s*** creek if I dont get this working..

Please post the last part of your Xfree86.log and what video card do you have.

celtic32 09-02-2002 02:33 AM

Last few lines of Xfree86.log is :
(EE) NVIDIA(0) Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0) ***Aborting***
(II) UnloadableModule "nvidia"
(II) UnloadableModule "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/Z11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

Fatal server error:
no screens found

and then a message about reporting problems to XFree86

thanks
R

zelgadis 09-04-2002 10:30 PM

Do you have tried installing the latest driver from nvidia?

Version: 1.0-2960
Release Date: 5/23/2002

http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=li...splay_1.0-2960

neo77777 09-04-2002 10:39 PM

You need to recompile the nvidia drivers in this case ti suit your new kernel

celtic32 09-05-2002 02:16 AM

re-installed the drivers and compiled them and getting loads of
'Unresolved errors" ???

zelgadis 09-07-2002 09:11 PM

Please post the error messages to see if this give us a clue about the problem. ^_^
