failure during boot

this is my first thread to this site.
my system had windows 98 first, upgraded to win XP.i installed redhat 9 (dual boot)
with sucessful sound test during the installation.on booting windows ,to my amazement there was no sound in windows.
i reinstalled the driver (nvidia nforce2) for asus motherboard.
sound came back in windows.
on booting linux there was no sound (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

to make matters worse, after a few additions in windows(new printer ,ups, just plugged in a new speakers),i couldn't even get boot inside linux.
DOESNOT PROCEED FURTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tried to upgrade ,even reinstall linux.
what could be the problem????? i'm desperate...

Try reinstalling kernel-
That should reload all your modules.
