External storage backup issues!

Hello All

I seem to be having issues with backing up my data to NAS boxes using a script that is executed by a cron job.

The script used to work fine but recently the backup job seems to be hanging(?) if that makes any sense, and the job does not complete unless I manually start to kill that hung process. By doing this, it will then skip the folder that it had hung on and resumes backing up the data again.

I have checked various log files and cannot see any issues relating to why the backup may have failed. I get an email once the job completes and in the past I would just simply get 'failed: No such file or directory (2)
*** Skipping everything below this failed directory ***', but now I *think* the process just hangs when this happens???

Also, how long would you expect a backup to take???...

Please see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ailure-887935/ for further details. This thread was created a couple of years back when I was also having issues with the backups...I never got to the root of the issue, but by disabling the nas box that i thought was causing issues seemed to fix the backup issues with the other nas box.

Thanks in adv for any help!

t.

i run backups out to buffalo linkstations all the time. i use either ftp (lftp on the server) or cifs with autofs, both worth great.

if you use the autofs, i suggest using rsync with the following flag:

rsync --temp-dir=/tmp locale NAS
