External Hard Drive Recovery - Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator
I have a 1TB external hard on which I've created 2 partitions. One was purely for data storage and is FAT32. The other was a 2GB (or so) partition I had made purely for Ubuntu's startup disk creator. I used the startup disk creator once and it worked fine to install a new version of Ubuntu. However, I recently went to use the startup disk creator again and something went wrong. I tried to use the startup disk creator's "erase disk" feature to clear the 2GB partition. Unfortunately, it did something strange to my entire disk. In hind sight I guess it probably wasn't the best choice, but it's a bit late now. The external drive still says says the correct free and used space, but I can't access any of the files. Previously, when I mounted the drive, it would mount 3 things, the hard drive and each partition. Now it only mounts the hard drive. It says there are no files but again the free and used space is the correct amount. Gparted informs me that the entire 1TB space is part of the FAT32 partition now (even though 2GB used to be seperate). The mount point is now /A064-D8FA__ (I'm pretty sure underscores have never been in the mount point before) and the current label is a random string of characters, some of are unknown by Gparted and show up as boxes. Also, the flags which used to be only on the 2GB partition (boot, lba) are now on the 1TB FAT32 partition.
That's where I'm currently at. Is there a way I can save the data on this hard drive without too much difficulty? It seems like most of the data should be fine and it's just the partition labeling information that got messed up, but I don't know enough about it to make a definite claim. Anyone have a suggestion on what I might be able to do? Thank you for your time!
