ext2 filesystem fragmentation, whats the deal?

Just wondering:
Does the ext2 filesystem need defragmenting? I have never head of anyone doing this, and it just strikes me as odd. If so, what utilites are used to do it?
Thanks,
Ben

no, it doesn't need to be defrag'ed, the ext2 file system was designed to not need it.

there is a program out there, forgot the name... but as linux does not need to be defragged, even the creator of this defragger for linux doesn't recommend it as it was known to destroy the filesystem.
