executing on startup

i'm running fc2

i would like to make a script that i can execute when i login to start a bunch of programs, such as firefox, thunderbird, xmms, gaim, etc...

i don't want it is .bashrc, cause i don't want it to load them everytime.

but if i was to make a script to do this, how would i do it... i am still pretty new to shell scripting.

thanks,
andrew

Well, if you want to actually run the script when you login... That's pretty easy.

make a file that has the binary files listed like this....

kedit StartScript
------------------------
#Script to run my stuff!

firefox ; gaim ; xmms ; ethereal

#end
-------------------------

That's it.

When you wanna run the script you can just do "sh StartScript" or...

chmod +x StartScript - to be able to just do ./StartScript

firefox ; gaim ; xmms ; ethereal

Modify the above scripts as

firefox &; gaim &; xmms &; ethereal &

This runs all tasks in background.
SO you dont have to wait for one process to end for other to start

Cheers

$ ./.startup
./.startup: line 3: syntax error near unexpected token `;'
./.startup: line 3: `/usr/bin/gaim &; firefox &; thunderbird &; xmms &'
