Executing gcc on my linux

I am having trouble executing gcc on my RedHat 8.0. First, i type in (on the terminal) whereis gcc. The terminal tells me where it is. I type in the exact same thing and it gives me an error about executing binary files or something. HELP?

The exact error message is important. It is difficult to help when being vague or something.

You bumped your thread but did not post any useful information.

What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to compile a program you have written etc..

What is the exact error message?
