Post executing files

can someone tell me why I cannot execute bin or exe files. I have changed the permissions. I get a message stating
"cannot execute binary file"

Anyone?

Is it a Linux binary that you are attempting to run?

Well the question is asked again, but note this part 'linux binary'

Is it a LINUX BINARY? Most linux binaries I've dealt with don't end with exe

If you have the linux realplayer, this should work:
chmod +x filename.bin
./filename.bin

Cool

it don't

the file I downloaded is "rp8.bin". When I try to execute it ,
"./rp8.bin" I get the following message

bash: ./rp8.bin: cannot execute binary file.

and like I said any bin or exe file says the same

I changed the permissions
I am logged in as root
I am clueless!

Its obvious that either
1.you are downloading a windows binary instead of linux binary
OR
2.your file is corrupted

attn everyone

I'm a newbie, but I do know how to follow directions. I went to real player, and I specifically downloaded the rp8.bin linux version. When I first got tha file and tried to execute it I was given 2 messages. One was I didn't have the permissions to execute this file, and the other was that message I keep getting now, "cannot execute binary file". I am a newbie to linux, so this is just something minor I know.

Ok, I went to real.com and downloaded the rp8.rpm. This will solve any problems. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Sorry the other didn't work out for you, I am still unsure as to why you couldn't execute it if it was truly a Linux bin file.

But I am happy you found an alternative, have fun linuxing!

Cool
