I've recently switched from Windows to Slackware with GNOME, and my biggeset gripe is that all of the icons and menus are gigantic. The incredibly large icons and buttons leave only about half the screen to type messages in Thunderbird. Part of it is that the font was too big, but I've figured out how to change that. Does anybody have any more suggestions for cutting down the size of these things?
ps. I am using 1024 x 768 resolution, the same as I had in Windows.
You can change the size of the buttons in the toolbar at the bottom. Try right-clicking it or browse the settings menu for toolbar options. In the settings meny there's also a utility to change desktop behaviour and settings which allows you to determine icon size.
You mean the panel right? I've got that taken care of as well as the desktop icons. I guess I wasn't very clear in my post, but what I am talking about is the icons within applications. Such as the "reply," "forward," etc. buttons in Thunderbird.
In Thunderbird click on View on the toolbar then go down to Toolbars and then right and down to Customise. Click that and on the panel that opens tick the box Use Small Icons.
