esd errors

Hi

I had a little problem with my soundcard in Linux.

I have a SoundBlaster 16.

It seems to be working now.

The problem is this.
XMMS does not play at all, it just keep jumping from one song to the next.
In the console I can play mp3’s using "mpg123", but I keep getting errors like:

Esd: Esound daemon already running or stale UNIX socket.
/tmp/.esd/socket
This socket already exists indicating esd is already running.

What does this mean, and how do I fix it?
