Question error while loading shared libraries: libfam.so.0 ?

./k3bsetup: error while loading shared libraries: libfam.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I did a little research, and I'm puzzled. Why would I get this error while trying to set up, or install a '.tgz' package in Slackware ?
From what I understand, this file has something to do with '.rpm' packages.

I received this error while trying to run 'k3bsetup' . I have also received this error when trying to install other '.tgz' packages such as 'mplayer' and 'xcdroast'.

What gives ?

The problem is that the authors of those packages
most likely had fam installed on their machine when
building the programs, and you don't ... you're not
getting that error during package-installation, but
at runtime.

Thumbs up

Thanks Tinkster. At least now I am reasonably sure that I'm not doing anything wrong.

I gather from what you are saying that these packages are not going to work properly, and I should ditch them and look for other packages. Or is there a way to use them ? Is it more trouble than it's worth ?

They'll just lack a bit of functionality
(if they consider the library non-essential
and still start up) ... but it would be a good
idea to install libfam yourself if three tools
need it ;)

Cheers,
Tink
