error when logging into GUI

when i try to log into my RH9 box (new build on an old PII 300 box for the school) i get an error about eth0 and it tells me to add

dhcpps0 to my /etc/hosts file so i did and i still get that error.

now Gnome seems to run fine, but i can not access any LAN dns? i can surf the web, and i can rdekstop via IP, but not via DNS.

is this anything i need to worry about? if so what steps should i take to resolve this issue, and what information do you need to help me get going in the right direction?

If you have a DNS server you need to add that to /etc/resolv.conf

if this doesnt work you will need to specify all hosts on your lan by their IP and hostnames in /etc/hosts.

Your questions are seemingly un-understatndadble.

could you please give me an example of what should go in the /etc/hosts file if i have to specify the host via IP.

in other words what should the format be and what would it look like.

i will add the DNS server to my /etc/resolv.conf tomorrow when i go back up to my school.

thank you for the help.

your answere is understandable (grins)
