error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/perror;4a3b6207: cpio: read faile
Hi all,
While trying to install "MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm" over my Linux RedHat server, i had the message
"error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/perror;4a3b6207: cpio: read failed - Invalid argument"
I have also to say that i can't use "yum" or "yum Extender" over this machine ( cause have no licence!, that's at list what i was said for this server ) and here after is the command i used to do so and the output :
# rpm -Uhvvv MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm | more
D: ============== MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm
D: Expected size: 20023567 = lead(96)+sigs(264)+pad(0)+data(20023207)
D: Actual size: 6085648
If you would 'stat -c %s /path/to/your/MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm' you would see the size is not 20023567 bytes. Expected and actual size must match. Download the RPM again.

I once again dowloaded that file and testes again after checking the file size, but still have the same error !!!
[root@patrasso Desktop]# dir -l

[root@patrasso Desktop]# chmod 777 MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm
[root@patrasso Desktop]# rpm -i /root/Desktop/MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm
Giving mysqld 5 seconds to exit nicely
warning: /etc/logrotate.d/mysql created as /etc/logrotate.d/mysql.rpmnew
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/myisamchk;4a3f534f: cpio: read
Also to mention that :
[root@patrasso Desktop]# stat -c %s /root/Desktop/MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm
2098474
gives 2098474 size and not 20023567 bytes, so may be i once again, i downloaded the wron file !!
2- With the mouse, go over "Dowload" link, for the mentionned software packet in #1 of this list
------>>> More Over :
i was wondering if the problem related only to the server software packet, so i downloaded the client too, and tried to install it over the same machine and using the same user "root" and also a problem with it too, here after what i've done and the message i had back !:
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/mysqladmin;4a3f5ed4: cpio: read
3- With right botton mouse, choose : "open link in new window"
4- Over the window that opens than, choose "open With" option giving "Software Installer (Default)" parameter to it ------------> ALL THIS PROCESS, SEEMS TO INSTALL A LOT A SOFTWARE PACKETS RELATED TO MYSQL, BUT STILL DON'T WORK !!!
You're not going to execute the package so please don't mark it executable. Never mark something octal mode 777 unless you know what you're doing AND there are no alternatives.
From there let's try a FTP, mirrorservice.org, Curl combo: 'cd /tmp; curl ftp://ftp.mirrorservice.org/sites/ft...rhel5.i386.rpm -o /tmp/MySQL-server-community-5.1.35-0.rhel5.i386.rpm'. If you haven't got Curl, use 'wget' and make sure root has no /root/.wgetrc with proxy settings and on the commandline change "-o" to "-O".
