error rotating /var/log/httpd/access_log

My root account periodically receives the following in an e-mail:

errors occured while rotating /var/log/httpd/access_log

httpd: no process killed
error running postrotate script

I also receive the same message, but with the /var/log/httpd/error_log.

Any idea what might be causing this, and how I can fix it?

have you checked to see if you have a file called: access_log
and: error_log in your /var/log/httpd/ directory?

perhaps they dont exist?

both files exist...

Both files exist, but they are empty (size 0 bytes). There are a few other files in this /var/log/httpd folder:

access_log.1 (0 bytes)
access_log.2 (5714)
error_log.1 (0)
error_log.2 (7344)

Im assuming that these files are associated with apache? or am i wrong...

It seems that the files arent being written to properly. Perhaps you should look at the conf file. Perhaps its not accessing the correct files. You may need to specify the path.

error log rotation ...

I saw that you don't have there in /var/log/httpd that access_log and error_log too .
Create twi simple files called access_log and error_log and all will be ok . I think so ..

Regards.

adirotaru,

He said that those files exist, and that there were others files in that directory. He listed the OTHER files.

Or so i assumed.....
