Question Error - no gcc3 or cc compiler when installing source code

i downloaded giFT from freshmeat.net and tried to install it. I did it like this:
tar -tvzf /blah
dir
cd "where it is"
./configure

this is when i get the error that i don't have the proper c compiler. I thought gcc would be in RH9. do i need to get cygwin or something?

Please help???

gcc is on the RH disks - don't remember what it's called in RH, but there's a graphical package management program, use that to install gcc from your install disks (maybe in the 'devlopment tools' section?).
