Error Message

Whenever JAVA starts I get the message "cannot allocate colormap entry for default background". I have also noticed I have a lot of error messages running in the background relating to grey (some number) and green (some number). Any simple way to fix this? redhat 6.2 on i486

redhat 6.2

I'm not sure but I'd guess that the X server can't find the default font needed to paint the background in an applet (it is an applet you're running?) which is a kind of 50% grey colour.

I'm gonna assume you got this copy free with a book on linux ?
Nothing at all wrong with that, but redhat is on version 7.2 (I think) now!

I've never seen any problems running more than 7.0 so I'd recommend that you seek out a newer copy of redhat and reinstall the SDK.

Hope this helps.

I get the EXACR same message whrn Java loads on my machine and I'm running SuSe Linux 7.2. Please don't suggest that I upgrade to 8.2 - I did and went back; the upgrade was anything but for me!
