Does anyone know of a distro of linux or a way to make a bootable usb key, that supports DOD standards for erasing SATA drives?

Use any distribution you want, and make sure it provides (or install) the shred command. Make sure you specify the entire drive or partition (for example: /dev/hda or /dev/sda)
