erase and re-install suse 9?

Hi,

I'm trying to erase and reinstall suse 9. My system is stalled and I was wondering if there is a way to boot from the disc, do and erase and just re-install the whole thing. I'm a linux newby and I've really created a mess.

I am a newby myself, welcome to the exciting world of Linux

Boot from the First SuSE CD, and when it gives the menu saying it will boot from the hard disk, select Installation and re-run the installation just like before. If you select the defaults, it will erase your hard drive and reinstall Linux.

Hi,

Thanks for responding!

Well, unfortunately, I can't get it to boot from the cd. It's stuck...waiting for server x to shutdown. I'm trying to find a kill button, or a way to get it to read the cd but it won't.

You should do a hard reset by pushing the reset button on the machine itself, or by turning the power off then on again.

Press and hold the power button, for up to 10 seconds or so. It should power off. If not, pull the AC power cord, and if I remember right, you are on a laptop, so you will have to pull the battery out too.

Then reboot with the CD in, and you should get the menu.

Good luck and have fun.
