Enlightenment for Fedora 16...Can it be installed?
 

I have Fedora 16 using a real time kernel and am trying to install light weight environments to run the real time apps such as Jack.

I am musician so I have to use the real time mode.

After doing some searching I found http://www.renewablepcs.com/about-li...-gnome-or-xfce and was wondering if it is possible to install the Enlightenment window manager / desktop shell on Fedora 16?

I did manage to find that same page before I posted but due to all the errors I kept getting, it made me wonder if it could be installed. That's why I posted here to see if it can and maybe an idea as to what I need to do different.:scratch:

If you're looking for e16, it's in the Fedora repositories. Looks like e17 hasn't made it yet.

You care to share some information as to the errors or relative information so we can aid in diagnosis.

FYI: I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem or query.

Installing GUIs from the repository on a distro is often a hit-and-miss affair, certainly in my experience of Fedora. There are seldom enough users to give feedback to the developers.

I'd have thought you'd be better off with a distro that's intended for musicians, like PureDyne, dyne:bolic, or Ubuntu Studio. They all have Xfce, so that wouldn't be too demanding on the computer.

The problem was never fully resolved but in part to moving on to trying out other distro's.

I felt that I should at least post an update as to the status, looking at how long it has been.

I am currently doing alittle bit of house cleaning with post that have made here on LQ.

I can't really mark it as solved so it is up to the Mod. as to close this thread or leave it so others may get some benifit.

Thank you to all that replied as it also helped with a few other Distro's just not Fedora.

I realize the staleness of this posting , but still this may prove useful.
I am a Enlightenment 17 user by preference, but sometimes ( especially with binary distros like Knoppix for example ) E17 is not part of the repos.
I know that E17 exists ( in this case ) in the debian repo , but it not very close to current ( which has FINALLY reached ver 1 and above ).
There is a script called "Easy_e17.sh " at omicron dot homeip dot net slash projects . It has worked well for me, it will pull the files needed and compile for your system. It will also complain if tools/libraries required are missing, which when satisfied, allows you to ( on re-running ) to complete the process giving a basic E17 system.

This is a dated thread, but I have a problem in using this script. It says that it is missing a package named 'eo'. I can't find it anywhere, no matter how hard I try, and google seems to not like a two letter 'word'. So I can't even google this thing...help?

"EO" is unfamiliar to me ,and all I get are spanish mentions. I don't think it's a E17 dependency as much as I do think it's a Fedora dependency.

Edit: Enlightenment has just recently been updated ,so this is a ( new ) library that the installer is asking for .

Tip: never let google play stupid ,use as many keywords as necessary , two letter , one word keywords gives it a chance to be dumb.

Only problem, I now get:

This appears to be a yum trial run , not a complete install at this point.
Not being a rpm, yum man ( I know this sounds like a cop-out ) I suggest seeing what yum over-rides options that you have.
I think you have to replace whatever is already installed with what ever the suse install wants to replace it with.
I do this sort of thing manually , but having broke the odd system , letting yum do the work seems a smart thing to do, so at least try go that route.

Trust me , you can always break the system later :)

You can force the installation (just download the libecore package and install with the --force option). Although it may work, it also may totally mess up your Enlightenment environment and is not at all recommended.

easy_e17.sh has no un-install procedure built -in, so you will need to find your installation log files, and delete the installed enlightenment files ( if any )
according to the logs . If you read easy_e17 with a text editor , it'll tell you where those log files should be.

Then use the yum install proceedure.
