Enlightenment
 

I have been using Linux for about a year and a half or so, and most of the time it has been with KDE. Recently I have been checking out some of the other options, but really feel like Gnome is too close to Windoze for me. I am trying to get away from the "mainstream" type interface, but don't want to go straight command line. So enlightenment seemed like a great alternative. BUT...

I can't get it to run programs at startup. I can't figure out the gui very well, but I do like it. And I also can't get it to shutdown very easy without simply opening a virtual console and typing reboot or halt. Any help on this almost awesome GUI would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ok, so I just shot over to enlightenment.org (duh, I should have first) and have found a plethora of information there. I think I can find a way to make stuff work. Thanks

I use Sawfish because I like it. I started with KDE, tried Gnome (but I don't particularly like it). Sometimes I switch to BB/Flux, and I even have had Waimea running on my system before now...but I always go back to good ol' SF. It's just so nice and simple that there's virtually no problems in configuring it to your taste...you don't have to manually edit any config files (bloody Waimea), it supports lots of nice themes...and it's very slick.

I'm using Window Maker on one machine and KDE or Enlightenment on the other one. And they all look very similar :)

i don't really like enlightenment, i have an older version and a new version, too much work gone into not enough, specifically, i don't like the mouse intensive interface. Although i use KDE most often, i am enthusiastic about trying out windowsmaker, XCfe and so on, now that i have them. I like the idea of GNOME better than KDE since KDE is built upon a proprietary library, and GNOME is totally opensource and freely distributable. GNOME however does not like my fickle mouse/glidepad. Neither does windows, or KDE, but it's not quite so bad in KDE as in GNOME...

Lets see, on all my boxes the default is Enlightenment. But on one of my machines, root uses XFce when I am in X with root. Not sure why I set it up like that, but of course, I rarely log in as root either. :D

I used KDE for a couple of years as a weaning from WinDoze I guess.
I started trying them all, well the main ones anyway. Ice is nice, but too windozish and I've settled on fluxbox, at least for the time being ;)
