Question Enabling DHCP

How do you enable DHCP post-install? I am trying to connect to the internet with a cable modem.

Check under services for dhcpd, this daemon needs to be running in order to get your modem working with DHCP.

As root try
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up
it should bring the interface up if everything is OK.

you can also try to manually configure dhcp by typing:

dhcpcd eth0

this will configure your nic for dhcp, though you'll have to do this every time after reboot. you can also run netconfig to change your network settings. though i recommend learning how to do this in your startup scripts, gives you a more hands on approach. :-)
