Effective UID and real UID

Hi,

i'd like to know what is the differente between the real uid and the effective uid (documents about this subject are welcome, google just gives me a lot of sites talking about setuid, setreuid and functions related, but no explanation about what this terms mean).

Cheers, Milo.

The real user id is the uid under which you logged in, while the effective userid is, when different, the one you are temporarily granted the privileges usually through a set-uid program.
