Unhappy Editing the PATH

I still very new to linux

How to I edit the PATH? Is the a PATH for root adn users? I know about the 'export' command to add a directory, but what if I want to remove one or change the order.

Thanks,

Erik

if you want to remove somethign from the path, you should make sure specificallyit's not set in the first place (check /etc/rc.local, /etc/profile /etc/bashrc etc...) or totally re set your path in your own .bashrc

The PATH environment variable is in .bash_profile file in your home derictory, you can work from there. Also the global path I believe in /etc/bashrc, take a look there. I know something like c shell is storing $PATH in .login and if you use c shell (/bin/csh) then you can set path with
set pat=(/usr/bin /bin /sbin/) # and so on just put different directoies separated by space in ().

You can also edit /etc/profile to adjust your path.
