Question edit value of PATH permanently

Hi Linux masters,

I'm just a Linux newbie, I want to ask if how can I edit the value of $PATH that will make the value permanent, even I reboot my slack 10?

For example, I uninstalled the java sdk 1.5.0, but the paths value for java (i.e. /usr/lib/java/bin) is still there after i removed the java by "rpm -e" command.

hi oneandoneis2... thanx, actually what i need is to remove the java values on my $PATH other than editing .profile's

for the answer to ur rpms, i use rpm for 3rd-party installation, only rpms are available for these stuffs, just want to ask, why are u asking if i use rpm for slack?
