dvd cache ?

When I try to write to either DVD-rw's, k3b says it is clearing the cache and it may take some time. Then the light on front of DVD begins to flash green, red several times. All that happens is a very small amount gets written to the dvd which ruins it.

I've checked everywhere I can think off in k3b to empty this cache but can not find anything.
What cache is it refering to?
How is this problem solved?

What do your logs tell you? Are there any error messages? Have you tried any other burning software besides k3b?
